A Brief History

Warwickshire Darts Organisation (WDO) was founded in 1974. The WDO and other counties were inaugral members of the British Inter Counties Championship, otherwise known as 'the BICC'. The early years saw the Warwickshire Chairman, Mr. Ken Glidle, also take up the position of Chairman of the BDO. The County has continued to grow over the years with over 500 players cementing their place in the County history.

400+ games have been played by the County since 1974. Many great names have donned the shirt of Warwickshire along the years, with no fewer than 11 players gaining international honours. The WDO has produced Four World Champions. Sean Dowling (1988) and Martin Whatmough (1995) taking the World Youth Championships. Steve Beaton became the Embassy World Professional Champion (1996) earlier, taking the Winmau World Masters Championships (1993). Our most recent world champion is the fantastic Ted Evetts, who was crowned 'Unicorn World Youth Champion' in 2021.

Trina Gulliver, the most capped player by the County, has created history with 10 Ladies World Professional Championships. Winning the inaugural event (2001), her most recent being (2016) along with 6 titles at the Winmau World Masters.

Thanks to the Late Dennis Roberts (1935 - 2005) and his family for the use of his comprehensive match paper-records from 1974 - 2005. Without access to these the WDO Darts Database would not be possible.

It was Dave's vision for the WDO to have a web presence, long before most other counties. Dave designed and co-developed version 1.0 of the WDO DB. He simply made it happen. This and our main website is his legacy. Taken too soon and still missed by many (1959 - 2010).
